2013 Sandrone Dolcetto D'Alba - Co
Dolcetto d’Alba is made as an easy-to-drink everyday wine that matches well with a variety of dishes. It shows great plum and berry fruit, deep minerality and good, firm, ripe tannins. Though “Dolcetto” roughly translates as “little sweet one,” the wine made here is not a pushover at all – it has loads of bright fruit but also good structure, with bright acid and firm tannin. The wine is made in steel from start to finish for freshness and intensity. Drink from 2-6 years of age.
January 2014, tank sample: Good grapey, rich aromas with bright fruit; very aromatically forward. In the mouth, it has bursts of red and black stone fruits, cola notes and vibrant, fresh acidity in good balance. Good fruity length with soft tannins and persistent fruit in the mouth. Finishes with bright cherries, mineral notes and ripe tannins.
July 2014, tank sample tasted just before bottling: has calmed considerably since last January; the fruit and acid are in better balance and the wine feels more harmonious overall. The well-delineated, focused fruit is nicely framed by the fresh acidity and the overall impression of the tannins is delicate - befitting the vintage, which gave us more elegant wines in general.
