2016 Banshee Rose Mendocino County
In 2016 we continued our journey into the viticultural riches that Mendocino County holds, especially for creating the type of fresh, vibrant rose´ that we enjoy drinking. In this vintage, we decided to use a broad palate of source material to craft the wine to continue making our rose´ completely from whole-clustered pressed fruit and with the consistent quality that our growing legion of Banshee
Rose´ fans have come to love.
In addition to the biodynamic site where we sourced the Pinot Noir for last year's rose´, we were also able to add beautiful parcels of Barbera, Grenache (including some ancient Grenache Gris) and Syrah. Each of these components added subtle elements to the wine that combined to make a wine that is at once joyous but also complex. The Grenache components added notes of melon and nectarine pit with the Pinot Noir adding bright red berries and floral aromatics. Barbera contributed a vibrant acid spine and red plums while Syrah giving it a sense of ballast.
The wine is a pale rose and peach combination in color and lip smacking as it goes down. It also possesses the depth to pair with everything from the lightest amuse bouche to the main course.
