Very backward. Dark and brooding, this is packed with blackberry and oak spice. Modern in style, with intensity and an appealing sweetness. Complex and long. Best from 2008 through 2015. 340 cases imported. –BS

(in previous vintages, Denis Mortet had bottled his village parcels of En Motrot, Au Velle, En Champs, Combe du Dessus and En Deree separately) Bright red-ruby. Dark plum, currant, chocolate and smoky, nutty oak on the nose. Supple, moderately ripe and concentrated, with a restrained sweetness and a light peppery quality. Not quite as focused and nuanced as the premier cru. Seems a bit dried by the new oak. 87 points

Tasting note: This is aromatically more elegant but less ripe, undoubtedly due to the hail with reserved red berry fruit aromas that are strongly inflected by underbrush and Gevrey earth notes that merge into admirably pure, precise and beautifully textured flavors that are at once explosive but sweet on the impressively long finish. A high quality villages, particularly for the vintage.
