2022 Chateau La Grande Clotte Lussac Saint-Emilion

  • Merlot/Cab Franc/Malbec
  • Former estate of Michel Roland
  • Firm and ripe with fun spice from the Franc
  • Extraordinary value for money in Bordeaux

In a year that has seen a flurry of extraordinary ‘drinker’ tier Bordeaux, we’ve saved the best for last! This petite, independent Chateau is owned by Julie Mercier who churns out some of the best hip and cool bottlings in the modern Bordeaux scene. Lussac is just outside Saint-Emilion proper and the addition of Cab Franc and Malbec rachet up the interest factor exponentially here!

This up and comer is a testament to why France is STILL a great choice for fun, delicious wine even when the dollar is down and the tariffs are up! Critics tend to agree:

91-93 points Jeb Dunnuck 5/10/23 “An impressive Lussac, the 2022 Château La Grande Clotte has ample cherry and blueberry-like fruit as well as violet and herbal nuances. It’s medium to full-bodied, ripe, and textured, with plenty of mid-palate depth.”

91-92 points James Suckling 4/6/23 “Juicy and savory with ripe dark berries and chalky tannins. Medium body. Dark-fruited finish.”
